Founded in 1995 in the heart of Cape Town, Mama Africa was born as a celebration of South Africa’s new democracy and the rich cultural diversity of the African continent. Created as a gathering place for locals and travellers alike, our vision has always been about more than just food. It is about connection, unity and true African hospitality.

From the beginning, Mama Africa became known for authentic African cuisine, vibrant live music and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Our colourful space, soulful rhythms and iconic dishes created an experience that quickly made us a Long Street institution.

After facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mama Africa was revived under new ownership with a refreshed look and an expanded Pan-African menu, while proudly staying true to our roots.
Today, we continue to serve bold flavours, lively entertainment and unforgettable cultural experiences.
